Vivian McClaugherty wrote a book a couple years ago called "By God's Grace". In the book she discusses the how her father was a Church of God of Prophecy minister. She talks about how he drank, smoked, tried to molest her and did molest young girls in his church. According to her book, everytime Church of God of Prophecy officials were made aware of his actions they just gave him another assignment at another church.
The sad thing is, they still continue this practice today. They move Bishops and Ministers around instead of dealing with the problems. These people go on to hurt more people. What a shame!

Grew up in COGOP in Georgia in the early 70's. Had to leave because I needed a stable church to raise my children in. There are some good people in the COGOP, but they fall into the same pit that a lot of Christianity does: they rely on Christian tradition to bring order to their lives instead of the leading of the Holy Spirit. There is some safety in tradition, but tradition rarely shows the relevance of the Gospel in society. Tradition brings safety but little joy. The Holy Spirit cleans a person up not tradition.

DeleteOne of the most damaging issues with the COGOP is how homosexuals and bisexuals were able to become ministers and rise to high positions. Many of these were in the youth work, even becoming general youth directors in Cleveland, TN, such as Darrel Tabert and a couple of other. Some, like Dwight Lawrence, who was youth director in CA was caught, but not before he victimized many young men across the country. These predators were also evengalists and pasters. One of them reached the top in Greece, Chris Status, with victums in several countries, including the US. They, the homosexuals/bisexuals, used the ministry to get young teenage boys, but they also had/have a friends who are also like them, who they are on the "down-low" with. Some were married with children and their wives knew what was going on. There needs to be a "me too" which names these preditors in the COGOP.
