I remained in a marriage for many years with a "minister" that could not stay faithful, claiming he was a "sex addict" and after many years of forgiving over and over again, simply staying for "the church" and "for the kids" and for my "COGOP parents", I finally had enough! We attempted christian counseling, but he would leave the sessions more angry that when he came in, thought of it as a finger-pointing session. So after the last affair (which was with another ministers wife) I'd had enough and left. I found that I did not fit in any longer in the COGOP because I was that "divorced" person and knew I could never be a member again if I chose to date or remarry. That was okay because the COGOP would never be my salvation and God knows my heart! I have recently married after 6 years of being single and know in my heart I will go to heaven. I do not need a denomination to tell me my fate....

Amy, it's true that you don't need a denomination to tell you your fate, they can't save you or send you to hell, but our fate; good or bad, IS WRITTEN in God's WORD. For the sinner, it is written in I Corinthians 6:9-10, "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God." and it is written in I Corinthians 7:39 how long we are married to our husband: "The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord." It's not what the other spouse does, or doesn't do, but we're responsible for how we respond to what's done to us, and us going out and committing sin, because they sinned against us, doesn't make it okay. Sis Amy, I have many years under the belt with the COGOP and embraced those teachings with ferver unequal to anyone. However! your understanding (and mind for many years) of 1Cor 6:9-10 has been totally misconstrued due to context. And Context IS King when dealing with scripture, especially the NT. Your citing of these behaviors outlined in that passage of scripture by the Apostle Paul is NOT a warning to the believers in Corinthians but to those who are unbelievers period! Especially in light of the fact of where this church is located and the social and immoral environment that was pervasive there. As an unbeleiver youre never referred to as a nice person, good person or anything positive in the state of your spiritual condition. There's only 2 categories of people: Believers or unbelievers, saved or unsaved, righteous or unrighteous. The saved (or believers) ARE righteous. And since righteousness is a gift, then no one can earn it hence it can't be taken away. now notice in that passage of scripture, its saying that those that do these things will not inherit the Kingdom of God. So! if an unsaved person never commits or have committed these acts, are they entitled to heaven? After all, its all spelled out black and white! And also notice, the commission of these acts is an "Etched in Stone" disqualification of heaven, because the Apostle Paul made NO provisions for Repentance and you cannot inject it in there, no assume that you can. Therefore, you can only come to the biblical conclusion that Paul is describing the State of ALL unbelievers. ALL unbelievers fall into the category described in 1 cor 6:9-10. 1 Cor 7:39 doesn't change that either since Paul describing the LAW NOT GRACE. Anyway, i don't expect to convince since that's not my purpose. Only to point out. The bottom line is that the COGOP has had her purpose but now, God is moving on with Grace which is what the NT is and has been all the time. If the COGOP expects to prosper spiritually and have favor, she must submit to the grace of God and his Righteousness not the Churches righteousness!

DeleteAmen Linda. Divorce and Remarriage is sin. Plain and simple. Doesn't matter if you are still in this cogop cult anymore. Don't care how they claim to change. Their changes were detrimental to what they claimed to always uphold and believe in. Mind you some of their doctrines were outrageous. But they had strong teachings of God's word. Not anymore. ReplyDeleteI agree, and i come from a hard line stance of this doctrine. And thats the point. The Churches teachings really amounted to commandments. Which is ironic. We claim that we are not under the law but our actions and beliefs obviously say otherwise. Please do not take this as an attack on this Church, Ive had alot of good times and many great relationships there. But at the end of the day, I was law based and it almost cost me everything including my sanity and family. Never again! Ive moved on and I have no ill feelings since we are all brothers and sisters in Christ of the Family of God. And if you know anything about families, you'll know that no 2 siblings always agree or get along every time. But we can never stop loving each other! Blessings!
